WORKSHOP

A CHILD
IN REGGIO EMILIA

In addition to the LARGE ART WORKSHOP that opens out to the garden area in front of the Piazza (the school's central gathering square), specialized workshop spaces are created based on the children's interests in the CLASSROOMS, the GARDEN, and YILDIZ PARK, which serves as our backyard where we spend two days a week. Furthermore, we regularly organize monthly art and project excursions, featuring guided workshops led by artists and experts at various locations.

LARGE ART WORKSHOP

The LARGE ART workshop that opens to Piazza, which we call the common area/square of the school, is used as an Artistic Recycling Workshop that we named REMIDA inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach. This workshop is open to all children and teachers every day from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Children come to the workshop individually or in small groups and research the topics they are curious about with material and technical experiments. Children who do individual research during free time come to the workshop with their project friends during class hours and continue their class projects.

Children use the art workshop as a tool to express their emotions and thoughts, realize their hypotheses or design the product they need in the project process. In this context, our workshop works as a studio-laboratory where design processes and scientific processes are intertwined and experienced together.

  • MINI CLASS WORKSHOPS

There is a workshop corner in each class with various paints, paper, brushes and natural and waste materials. When curiosities turn into a “project”, children use this corner actively and uninterruptedly while concretizing their learning using “The Languages of Art”. In addition, light, shadow and reflection are learning materials for us, so each class has a mini light workshop with technical devices that provide light/reflection/shadow production opportunities like a mini art workshop.

  • GARDEN WORKSHOP

We use our front and back gardens as open workshops within the scope of project processes in winter and summer school in summer. Various corners are arranged where children can use their bodies in parallel with their developmental period characteristics. Sensory environments created with materials such as water, soil, sand are made in our garden. Gardening activities are carried out according to the seasons.

  • YILDIZ PARK AS A NATURE WORKSHOP

Based on the slogan ‘The forest is the most beautiful art workshop’, our art and design processes continue in natural areas such as Yıldız Park, Beykoz Perma Camp and botanical gardens we visit.

  • ART GALLERY/MUSEUM WORKSHOPS

We have workshops with artists accompanied by artists and workshops related to art movements in the museum and art galleries we visit every month.

MATERIAL SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ART WORKSHOP

The materials in the art workshop are determined and supplied under four main headings: BASIC STATIONERY materials, materials specially supplied for PROJECTS, MOULDING-SENSORY art materials and WASTE MATERIALS.

    • No synthetic material containing heavy metals, smelly, varnished can enter the workshop and classrooms and be presented to children.

    • We prefer water-based ones with international certificates in ready-made stationery materials and paint varieties.

    • The PROJECT and Art-sense-play materials in our workshop are not structured by adults.

    • As in Reggio Schools in Italy, Meşe Palamudu Art Workshop models REMIDA approach in terms of diversity and supply of waste materials.
